As promised here are some of my favorite artwork from Spectrum 17. I have to say that the majority of them definitely comes across better in print so this book is worth an investment.

I also would like to dedicate this entry to my best friend Julia who's studying far away in Oxford (well okay, techniqcally it's just a jump across the pond but you know sometimes it feels like she's far far away :( )and so unfortunately she can't take a look at it until maybe Christmas :).

Anyway I feel so honoured to be part of this book with my painting "Touch of Gold"!

Bronze&Rubin

That's right I'm updating more than once in a month. Great isn't it ? ;)

I have a new painting called "Bronze & Rubin" on my Homepage.

It has similar to "Poesie" a watercolor paper based background but this time I overlayed it about all of the painting and just erased a few parts around the face of the girl. I also added a pencil drawing and parts of a watercolor painting to the background as well as parts of it over the bird.I wanted to give this painting the feeling of a "coming to life" painting if you know what I mean, that's why for example the little red flower on the top left has a very 2 dimensional look (here I also increased the watercolor paper layer to that the structure becomes more visible).

I also was happy to receive my copy of Spectrum 17 today and let me tell you that it's just absolutely beautiful. So much inspiration, so much great art. I think what makes a good art book is when you keep starring at one picture or page for quite some time instead of just browsing through the book quickly. I plan to make an extra entry showing you my favorite art from the book but I would really recommened this to every one who is truly intrested in illustration and storytelling in paintings ;) I plan means I hope I find the time haha XD

Poesie

Heya,

again I didn't update as much as I promised. Maybe I just shouldn't apologize anymore and promise to be better since that won't happen anyway :)
Again a lot of happened in the last weeks, I finally have my own apartement and I can't really describe how awesome it is NOT to share everything with 10 other people, how nice it is to know that no one will eat your stuff away from the fridge and how peaceful it is to sleep without someone deciding to re-decorate their room in the middle of the night (I mean seriously?).

I come back to you with a new painting called "Poesie" (german for "Poesy"). This was another experiment. So lately I like to experiment a lot with techniques etc. For the background I decided to use real watercolor paper. I scanned it and laid it over with a filter. I think it gives this digital piece the feeling of a real painting and it also adds nice overall effects. In contrast I painted the figure and other stuff over the layer with the watercolor paper. I quite like how it came out.
Also the background is referenced from a landscape painting I have hanging in my room (or had since I moved and at the moment I can't quite bring myself to put nails into the wall) because it just had the right atmosphere for what I wanted to achieve and also was painted in the style I wanted this one to be (does that sound confusing?). I find this much more intresting than to reference from photos since those old styled oil paintings have a special magic that I really like. Overall it also makes the painting look less "polished".

So I have another little experiment in my mind for my next painting, we'll see how that plays out.
