good news, bad news

Hello folks!

I have some news for you. Actually some good news and some bad news.

The good news are:

Heaven and Earth Design licensed a few pictures of mine and you can already find some of the Cross Stitch Designs at heavenandearthdesigns.com (for a link to find my charts look up my website)

Also Reinders, a big German poster company (http://www.reindersposters.com) has licensed "Touch of Gold" as a poster now. Check out your local stores for it ;)

I also have a new painting for you titled "A Stranger Awaits", another attempt of diving into urban fantasy. I really like the outcome. Also I used oil painting surface as a texture :) So no fairies at the moment :)-
Life is just not a fairytale at the moment....which bring me to the bad news:

Working is going a little slower than I would like to. I few days back I was told that I've been running around with an eye defect for quite some time. I had some problems with my eyes before but it was usually just for a short time and then it got better again. But the last weeks were horrible for me as I had strong headaches and could barely work. I also notied that I couldn't read things from afar as well as I could before. Still I thought this was due to too much work. Well that was until I went to the doctor a few days back who told me I had an astigmatism on the right eye (the left eye is almost perfectly fine). So now I wait for my new glasses to get finished and until then will only be able to work half as much as before. For me that sucks cause I am a workaholic and I absolutely hate it not being able to work when I want so much.
Anyway the good thing is, it already got better due to the eyedrops I got and due to me relaxing a little and when I get these glasses I'll only need to wear them for work and not all day long .....still it came a bit unexpected.

But my glasses will rock haha XD

I hear Voices

....I really do. My cat's voices that are. Never thought such a little creature could make so many different sounds. If there ever was a glossary about what each of them means I would so buy it.
Speaking of my cat, it's her birthday today and no I didn't plan to upload my new piece of art exactly on this day. It just happened that I remembered it was her 3rd birthday (in my defence I have to say I only have her for 2 month now).

So yeah the most important thing is I am finally, finally finished with this new painting. Took me ages and in between I wanted to abandon it completely. I was aiming for a slightly different format here & as you see more than one protagonist.

Next thing I'm planning is to "recycle" some old paintings I never really finished (going throuh old files can be really surprising) and then I can't wait to start working on my working station (two big monitors) instead of my small laptop.
Ohhh and of course my website design. I do have an idea, just no IDEA when I'll have the time to work on it *sighs* and really everyone uses awesome flash stuff on their websites and I feel so oldschool so rely on CSS and html only haha XD. I guess I kind of missed the train.

Anyway, hope you're all well.

Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Here in Germany we have lots of snow and a very white Christmas and I'm home at my parents house enjoying the holiday.

I also would like to dedicate this entry to my best friend Julia who's studying far away in Oxford (well okay, techniqcally it's just a jump across the pond but you know sometimes it feels like she's far far away :( )and so unfortunately she can't take a look at it until maybe Christmas :).

Bronze&Rubin

That's right I'm updating more than once in a month. Great isn't it ? ;)

I have a new painting called "Bronze & Rubin" on my Homepage.

It has similar to "Poesie" a watercolor paper based background but this time I overlayed it about all of the painting and just erased a few parts around the face of the girl. I also added a pencil drawing and parts of a watercolor painting to the background as well as parts of it over the bird.I wanted to give this painting the feeling of a "coming to life" painting if you know what I mean, that's why for example the little red flower on the top left has a very 2 dimensional look (here I also increased the watercolor paper layer to that the structure becomes more visible).

I also was happy to receive my copy of Spectrum 17 today and let me tell you that it's just absolutely beautiful. So much inspiration, so much great art. I think what makes a good art book is when you keep starring at one picture or page for quite some time instead of just browsing through the book quickly. I plan to make an extra entry showing you my favorite art from the book but I would really recommened this to every one who is truly intrested in illustration and storytelling in paintings ;) I plan means I hope I find the time haha XD

Poesie

Heya,

again I didn't update as much as I promised. Maybe I just shouldn't apologize anymore and promise to be better since that won't happen anyway :)
Again a lot of happened in the last weeks, I finally have my own apartement and I can't really describe how awesome it is NOT to share everything with 10 other people, how nice it is to know that no one will eat your stuff away from the fridge and how peaceful it is to sleep without someone deciding to re-decorate their room in the middle of the night (I mean seriously?).

I come back to you with a new painting called "Poesie" (german for "Poesy"). This was another experiment. So lately I like to experiment a lot with techniques etc. For the background I decided to use real watercolor paper. I scanned it and laid it over with a filter. I think it gives this digital piece the feeling of a real painting and it also adds nice overall effects. In contrast I painted the figure and other stuff over the layer with the watercolor paper. I quite like how it came out.
Also the background is referenced from a landscape painting I have hanging in my room (or had since I moved and at the moment I can't quite bring myself to put nails into the wall) because it just had the right atmosphere for what I wanted to achieve and also was painted in the style I wanted this one to be (does that sound confusing?). I find this much more intresting than to reference from photos since those old styled oil paintings have a special magic that I really like. Overall it also makes the painting look less "polished".

So I have another little experiment in my mind for my next painting, we'll see how that plays out.

Something New

No I'm not talking about that cheesy movie just sharing a new painting ;)

I'm currently trying to paint something a bit more what you call contemporary fantasy. I like to try new things and it's always nice to do something other than painting fairies. This one in entitled "Home".

I've also added a sketch section to my website where I probably will post similar stuff like in the post before this one.

Oh and I'm probably moving apartements in October. Can't wait to finally have my very OWN apartement and not having to share everything with 10 other people. Yeah...that sounded intresting huh?

Hello folks,

It feels like ages since I updated my gallery but I'm finally back with a new painting called "Be still my troubled heart". The creature on the woman's shoulder is not supposed to be a specific animal but I looked at a mixture of swans, great white egrets and other birds for reference.
Ultimately this could be my version of a succubus. At first it looked way more scary and the tree was part of its wing. Somehow the composition looked weird so I decided to give it two full wings and it's up to your imagination if the tree with the roses (and with that the world that surrounds the girl) is part of the creature or if it's just part of the enviroment
Does the girl know that the creature is sitting on her shoulder? Is is good or evil? Why is she crying? I have an idea, but I leave it up to you tehee ;).

I hope I'm able to update more regularly now. I really am quite busy and together with some not-so-nice events that recently occurred in my life I really had nothing to add to my gallery. My fingers are itching to renew my website design but I have absolutely no time.

Good news are that my agency made a few great deals lately so expect some more news on that side soon.

That's pretty much it, I'll continue to try not to melt on my laptop (can't stand hot summer days like this) and hopefully will be back with something new soon.

Mhm...I decided to put some more sketches up.
Anybody else wants a Chesire Cat? LOOOOOOVE it. But my favorite is probably the White Rabbit. I'm contemplating doing a full painting maybe....
Obviously inspired by the movie (the concept art made me go DAHVZNLPGTFHVGJF!), though my cat could be more chubby. I think I can't paint chubby things...gee I'm rambling.
Don't ask for new artwork please, I have lots of unfinished paintings but I really don't know when there will be new stuff.
